My name is Sebastian and as an open air preacher, servant, father, and husband. My mission is to make Christ known to a world that doesn’t know Him and to edify the body of believers. In this post, I want to show how I got here.

The Calling

I wasn’t always an open air preacher, in fact I was sort of reserved and shy and could care less to go out of my way to share Christ, but one day after I got saved and was at work I felt I heard the voice of God tell me in the lunchroom for the warehouse to stand up and quote a Bible verse. I was nervous and told myself it was my imagination, however, a wave of guilt came over me and I knew I had to do so. Yet, even still I was hesitant. Than I heard I was to do it before I finished my last bite of lunch. I nibbled it all the way down to almost a crumb and with only a few minutes before the lunch was over I stood up and quoted Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your father which is in heaven.”

Then a man responded, “amen!” I was incredibly shy and red faced and hurriedly ate my last bite and clocked back in for work. I believe it was there I was called to be an open air preacher but just didn’t know it till later.

Soon I found myself hearing a calling through Isaiah, Ezekiel, and Jeremiah to share the gospel far and wide and got involved by watching videos than meeting Jesse Morrell at a conference and it has never been the same since.

Taking It to the Streets

My method of preaching involves taking the message of Christ to the streets, colleges, parks, and other public spaces and events. I believe that by going where people are, we can reach those who may never step foot inside a church. With a loud and clear voice with a Bible in hand, I am able to share and defend the truth to a world that lies in darkness.

Though some may assume our approach is about condemnation or judgment, but if you see you’ll know it is about offering hope and redemption through repentance and faith. I engage in conversations with people from all walks of life, answering their questions, and addressing their doubts. Through these interactions, I seek to plant seeds of faith and truth to lead people to a personal relationship with Christ till the very end. Knowing the terror of the Lord we persuade men. (2 Corinthians 5:11)

Challenges and Rewards

Being an open air preacher comes with its fair share of challenges. I have faced opposition, skepticism, and sometimes even hostility. I have been spit on, punched, kicked, had my jaw broken, and yet even still it is worth it for the sake of one coming to know Christ. I remain steadfast in the Gospel mission, relying on Christ and the support of my family. My wife and children stand by my side, providing encouragement and prayers as I face the ups and downs of this unique ministry.

Despite the challenges, I find great joy and fulfillment in this work. I have witnessed lives transformed, hearts softened, minds convinced and individuals coming to the fear and faith in Christ. The reward of seeing someone encounter the love of God or the fear of God for the first time far outweighs any difficulties I may encounter along the way.

Edifying the Body of Believers

In addition to reaching out to the lost, I also have a heart to edify and strengthen the body of believers. I understand the importance of discipleship and equipping others to share their faith and to have a reason for every man that asks of you. (1 Peter 3:15) Through discipleship, training sessions, and mentorship, videos, and teachings I seek to empower fellow believers to boldly proclaim the gospel and make Christ known in their own spheres of influence as well as know what the Bible has to say about a specific idea.

A Call to Action

My story I hope serves as an inspiration and a call to action for all believers. While not everyone may be called to be an open air preacher, each of us has a unique role to play in making Christ known. Whether it’s through our words, actions, or simply living out our faith authentically in the fear and admonition of the Lord, (Ephesians 6:4) we are all called to be ambassadors for Christ in our everyday lives.

Let us join the Kingdom of Heaven in the mission of making Christ known to a world that desperately needs Him. Together, we can make a difference and bring hope to those who are lost.
